Conclave of Tibetan Freedom Fighters held at ATWS, Dharamshala

ATWS Dharamshala April 29, 2026: The Department of Security, Central Tibetan Administration, convened a two-day Conclave of Tibetan Freedom Fighters from April 24–25 at the Administrative Training and Welfare Society (ATWS), Dharamshala. ATWS facilitated the event by providing venue and service facilities.

The conclave comprising of around eighty-nine participants, was inaugurated with a ceremonial reception of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s portrait on stage, escorted by Chief Guest Officiating Sikyong Mrs. Changra Tharlam Dolma la (Kalon of Education Department), Security Kalon Mrs. Dolma Gyari la, and other distinguished guests.

Special guests included Andruk Choekyi la, Tenzin Sonam la. Tibetan Justice Commissioners Mr. Dawa Phunkyi la, Mr. Phagpa Tsering la, Tibetan Parliamentarian Ven.Tenpa Yarphel la, Department Secretaries including Security Secretary Mr. Karma Rinchen la, Keutsang Rinpoche, representatives from the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and other delegates from the three Tibetan tradional provinces.

Organized as part of the celebrations marking His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birth anniversary, the gathering primarily aimed to honor selfless Tibetan freedom fighters who have endured decades of oppression under the Chinese Communist Party’s repressive policies in Tibet while remaining steadfast in their lifelong dedication to the Tibetan cause. It also served as a platform for gathering feedback on the Department’s ongoing work.

The inaugural session featured introductory remarks by Security Kalon Mrs. Dolma Gyari la, a keynote address by Chief Guest Mrs. Changra Tharlam Dolma la, and felicitations for several important guests. In her remarks, Mrs. Dolma Gyari la emphasized that while Tibetans offer many long-life prayers to His Holiness, it is equally vital to fulfil one’s responsibility to be a true representative of the Tibetan people.

She highlighted His Holiness as a visionary world leader who has laid the foundation of a democratic polity, enabling his people to work in unity and raising global awareness of Buddhist principles and philosophies.

Following this, Chief Guest Mrs. Changra Tharlam Dolma la expressed deep appreciation for the bravery and contributions of Tibetan freedom fighters. She recalled personal family experiences of resistance during 1959, paying tribute to the sacrifices of unsung heroes, and echoed a call for unity and resilience among Tibetans in the face of ongoing challenges.
